June 7, 2003 - Greenwater

After the last ride at Greenwater, it was three more weeks before we could get out again. In that time though, there had been almost constant sun, and the snowline had risen quite a bit. The temperatures this time were pretty warm, with everyone stripping down to one layer not far from the truck.

Scott, Mike, Ed standing where we had stood three weeks prior, stopped by snow.

This is near the final intersection of FR70 and the Naches jeep trail, just before Government Meadows (trail closed 'til 7/15)

First nice view of the day, looking towards Mt. Rainier with Scott, Paul, and Ed in the foreground. Twenty minutes into the ride, and we started to shed clothing - not a good sign.

Ed, Mike, and Scott near Pyramid Peak (I believe), looking towards "the mountain" again.

Traffic jam on one of the bridges on the east lower Naches trail.

A pause on our way down the east/dry side of the Naches trail. Scott, Mike, and Ed.

Scott, Mike, Ed headed up FR19 towards Naches Pass, after eating our lunch at Kaner Flats.

Ed and Mike decided to cool their feet off, and are here putting their boots back on.

Scott, Ed, Mike with their backs to Mt. Rainier. Almost exactly a year earlier on a ride with Doug (http://www.dualsport.info) we had our picture taken at the same spot.

Same spot, looking towards Rainer (sans riding buddies)

Looking back towards the spot in the previous picture, from a logging road to the West.

With riding buddies.

I believe this is 7030, approaching the last summit before coming down on the Greenwater side. This was the most snow we saw all day, with the temperature at least 25 degrees lower than the areas before and after this.

Four bikes with no kickstands. This was another spot where we had a similiar picture the summer before, with Doug (http://www.dualsport.info). The bikes belong to Mike, Scott, Paul, and Ed.
