The Bradys' told us of a recent hike they had done near Sunrise Lodge at Mt. Rainier, and we decided to try it ourselves. We were trying to get to Dege Peak, which was maybe a mile and a half from the parking lot. We arrived about 5:45am, which did not give us much time. We didn't help ourselves, sitting in the car a moment when we arrived, looking out at the darkness.

The hike up was beautiful with plenty of pictures taken, and we were about half way when the sun made its appearance. We didn't get to see the sunrise from Dege Peak, but we had a great time none the less. After coming back down we completed our drive to the lodge parking lot, and explored the local area a bit before driving back home.

Having just parked the car we took this panorama from the trailhead, approximately 40 minutes before sunrise.

We had hoped to be to the top of the trail by sunrise, but we were too late.
